Church or Isolation? A Reflection
Have you ever been hurt in Church? Have you ever been so abused, broke, or disappointed by those in the Church that it has left you lost, complex, confused, broken, and in pain?
What I am about to share is a piece of self-reflection, discernment, and healing. I want to make it clear that I love Christ, order, and the Church body; however, there are serious issues with the Church at present.
What did Jesus do?
I often hear statements like “Don’t leave the Church; don’t abandon fellowship. If you leave, Satan will attack, devour, and consume you like a lion. You are not loyal or in God’s will unless you follow the Church.“
Many sermons or comments made during fellowship promote the idea that you are not being loyal or following God’s will if you do not attend Church and are not always in fellowship in “their” current environment. They often say things like “If you don’t go to Church, you are forsaking scripture“… and many other things.
Nevertheless, if we examine Scripture, we see that Jesus regularly withdrew to lonely places to pray and be with the Father. He often went to a solitary place to pray and be. He frequently, after dismissing crowds, went up to the mountain by Himself. He would spend time alone with Father. He would often slip away, seeking quiet, private spaces with Father in relationship with Him; and we see clearly that Christ sought the Father’s direction and will, and set himself apart likewise when he was carrying weight and grief and making decisions.
Is all isolation bad?
Alot of sermons and church dwellers treat any withdrawal as isolation and automatically label it dangerous and stir a sense of fear – to me, it seems like a false dichotomy that has hurt a lot of people. I say this because Jesus withdrew on purpose for His health, for clarity, and for communion with the Father.
Moreover, not all solitude is always harmful- sometimes it is holy, sometimes it is self-protection and soundness rather than self-destruction.
For instance, Jesus withdrew to be alone when He was tired or weary, when people were demanding too much of Him, when He needed clarity, when he was weeping, and when He was preparing for difficult challenges.
Let us remember He came in the form of man and experienced what we did -to feel how we feel- being hungry, sad, happy – and the like.
One could conclude that solitude was the best choice Jesus could make in certain moments. So, really, isolation in this perspective is not the worst thing; it is not a sign of spiritual decline; it is not “dangerous,” as many have preached over and over. And with the same spiritual logic, sometimes being alone is the best place to hear God clearly and fellowship with Him.
I personally found that isolation is sometimes the best place to be, and the devil does not “get me” as projected, as I grow stronger with the Lord and the Holy Ghost. And I am closer to the Father in the secret place.
The Church is not automatically safe.
Inside the Church, you encounter a multitude of personalities, levels of maturity, and blends of influences. There are numerous teachings, opinions, and whispers- some healthy, some confused, and some deceptive. You interact with people who are unhealed, unstable, or acting out of their wounds, and at times you encounter those who are manipulative, false, or predatory. Because of all this mixture, the Body can sometimes feel like a chaotic swirl of disorder, pressure, and conflicting expectations. You are constantly trying to discern: “Is this right?” “Is this wrong?” “Is this God or not?” It becomes draining and exhausting, especially when people project their standards, their comfort levels, and their version of faith onto you.
However, the preceding does not negate the good- there is still love here in the land of the living. I have met some really wonderful people at Church; I have heard some really great and powerful preaching and teaching; and I have served in ministry myself, knowing there is a purpose and a calling for us all in the Body of Christ. But discernment is vital and often a lifeline today. We cannot look away from this gift or its warnings and prompts.
Does this go against the Word- Hebrews 10:24-25?
Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10 emphasizes the importance of encouraging one another in love, faithfulness, and perseverance, especially during times of persecution. However, it should not be interpreted as a command to endure toxic environments, ignore emotional boundaries, or remain in harmful communities. It does not suggest that one should always be available, participate in endless gatherings, or continuously expose oneself to dysfunction.
Having come from certain backgrounds and experiencing various situations myself, as well as helping others who have faced trauma and abuse, I understand how easily this verse can be misinterpreted. It can be weaponized or used, whether intentionally or unintentionally, to guilt or shame someone.
Many use this part of the passage in Scripture to control, to force an unhealthy community, to draw crowds, and to keep attendance. But the Bible never commands constant socializing, church attendance, availability, or exposure to people. It does not say one must attend every gathering, be “available” to everyone all the time, ignore one’s emotional limits, or stay in toxic or harmful environments. This part of the Scripture does not mean chaos, pressure, guilt, manipulation, emotional exhaustion, being drained, being consistently misunderstood and rejected, or being spiritually gaslighted. It does not mean staying in gossip, comparison, spiritual pressure, false teaching, emotional manipulation, dysfunction, religious guilt, or people’s wounds and projections.
Healthy Interpretation
Fellowship is gathering to love God and each other; it also means existing in safe environments, encouraging healthy communication, and providing space to grow, mature, and love God. It does not mean everything is perfect, but there have to be established boundaries, and we have to test and give grace for error and for the washing of the world and the evil one.
We have to realize there will be misunderstandings and errors, and we have to discern and understand that. But we must also all see and know that not everyone has the best intentions for us, and not everyone even fully understands us- like God does, or the place or season we are in, or the reason for it. We do not just give “access.” We have to know that not everything and not everyone is a free‑for‑all without limits, for ourselves or each other. We are to be accountable to God even if others are not, or not yet.
Even so, we cannot look away from the fact that some of the plans from someone’s heart, mind, or soul may be poison, wickedness, or outright falsehood- all against the truth. Sometimes one’s heart is full of deception at play, with the intent to murder your heart and extinguish your light.
Love God, Love People, but Guard your heart.
Nevertheless, guard your heart and love God and love people. We should consider one another and act in love and honorable deeds, not forsaking connection with the Body of faith, but gathering in allegiance to Christ, being in relationship with him, and sharing His salvation, love, revelation, and wisdom.
We do not need to force ourselves into draining environments, remain in toxic communities, ignore our emotional needs and limits, or suppress our need for rest and peace.
Boxed Religion & Idols
True Church is not about boxing people into a building, a schedule, or a program within a certain timeframe. Rather, it’s about our identity in Christ and encouraging each other through persecution, growth, and love. It’s about worshiping God above all- first in Unity, Truth, and Spirit, then supporting and loving one another. -Look at the order of the greatest commandments – love God, then people.
Some have made idols of people and the community – of the Church.
-Idols, standards, expectations, and men’s traditions are enthroned in the first place rather than Christ. Beware of that, my loves.
The Early Church
In the Early Church, the Elders did not just let anyone around or to influence the flock; they exercised testing of spirits, discretion, and discernment, because they knew that devils and bad men and women existed, and they protected their worship, homes, and flock. There were order and testing before leadership and other types of roles.
And the Holy Ghost was allowed to flow forth in fellowship and order was practiced, and those with fruit operated their giftings and shared in love, and there was a closeness with the Spirit – a Oneness in fellowship; a relationship with the Lord within the Body as Him as the Head; us as the bride; Him as the Bridegroom – the Leader; the Husbandman.
The Early Church did not function like we do today; they did not interact like we do today. They did not fellowship like we do today – they had this fire – this love – this purity from just loving God with all their hearts, minds, souls, and strengths and each other. -They were literally crushed, oppressed, and persecuted, and many died for God and the Church- for God and each other.
Discernment of Spirits.
I am not saying to go out and get martyred, or to ask anyone to do this – but love is cold, and hearts are hardened towards God and His ways and thoughts. Many want to be leaders and not submit to Christ’s Leadership as the HEAD and source, and many follow fools blindly, only to get hurt, tied up, and twisted.
Many do not want to wait on love. We wait on the One we love. We wait on Jesus.
Others only want the title, the tithe, the mic, the spotlight, the accolades, and the applause. They want to use the name of Christ, of Jesus, to get attention, status, and power, and control, and money- this is not of God, nor His way – and many of us see that plainly.
Community is not automatically safe and secure.
Today, in many nations, there is dirty water, a tainted taste, a strange fire, -there are places like the altars of old that need to be brought down and destroyed; put away with. Torn down and rebuilt. The Lord is not in these places- the candlestick is out- these are false and misleading- an illusion ran through Satan himself, using Pharisees, demonic spirits, and men and women with bad hearts. It’s truth, and Christ even warns of this in the Word. One cannot look away from that.
When isolation is actually healing
The Earth realm is wild with disorder at present, and many things are manifesting across many areas of the Church; when one isolates it, it could be that they are not running away; they are recovering. Sometimes they are not unhealthy or isolated; they are protecting their Spirit and guarding their heart. Sometimes they are not avoiding community but rather seeking wisdom to escape dysfunction or abuse. The adversary can work through situations, people, relationships, noise, pressure, expectations, guilt, and confusion and chaos- community can whittle and wear a person down. And sometimes the most spiritually dangerous place to be is in an environment, or a room full of people who cannot see you clearly, who are dedicated to misunderstanding you, or manipulating you, or harming you, or twisting Scripture to fill seats and collect tithes.
Is the lonely place safe?
Yes, Jesus withdrew often- to breathe, to ground in the Father, to hear only His voice and influence, and to me, that is obedience. And in my pondering, it is healing, clarity, and reclaiming parts of oneself that others have taken and broken or used and/or destroyed – it’s drawing out of all the noise and being still in peace.
– Personally, it’s where I can find myself and can be in sanctification in the sanctity of my heart and mind, with the tables of my soul, and be full of the Holy Ghost and His expression. It is a place of rest.
-And if you need that, you can experience that too in His love.
Farewell Peace
The Bible never commands us to remain in environments that continually wound and haunt our spirits. There are seasons when withdrawing is not rebellion but wisdom- time set apart to heal, seek Christ, gain discernment, and to recover strength. We are called to gather and encourage one another, but that gathering should be healthy, godly, rooted in sound doctrine, and marked by accountability, testing, and discernment.
Considering everything I have already shared, I need to say this plainly: community should not drain you, guilt you, twist Scripture, weaponize faith, refuse accountability, or project its brokenness onto you.
No one in the Church should be forcing or touching anyone inappropriately or harming anyone mentally, emotionally, sexually, or spiritually. There should never be coercion, manipulation, intimidation, or any form of violation. No one should ever be destroying another’s heart, breaking their mind, damaging their body, or wounding their soul. The Church is meant to be a place of deliverance, healing, and life. There should be healing and life – In Jesus name.
Yet these monstrosities occur often, even daily, and in places where people should be safe and loved. That is why withdrawal can sometimes be holy, necessary, and biblical.
Lastly, there are so many voices in the world; sometimes we have to isolate ourselves to hear that small whisper of love – to shut out everyone and everything else and listen for our Father, just like Jesus.
Jesus withdrew. Elijah withdrew. Moses withdrew. David withdrew. Paul withdrew. John withdrew. Many withdrew to seek the Father, hear clearly, and obey faithfully.
Withdrawal is not always weakness; sometimes it’s wisdom. And it’s okay if we need this and do this in and with Christ. It’s okay – if you need to, come into your secret place, with your God and King.

a withdrawal for healing and clarity
a season for reclaiming - a place to hear only your voice - your direction - your way.
Your thoughts are higher - your ways pure - a Perfect love - complete.
Dear child, if people have hurt you, come to me. There is a space for you – time for you. I am not too busy to SHEPHERD MY SHEEP. You are Mine, and I love you. Come to me. -YHWH.
Brother & Sister
Receive healing in Jesus name, amen. We pray that all unhealthy environments and situational ties be burned right now- Father’s fire falls in Jesus name amen. We pray healing miracles over you in Jesus name. We pray life from trauma, abuse, rape, manipulation, pressure, expectations, demonic oppression, oppression of men and tradition. We pray healing and miracles for those in strongholds – come down right now in Jesus name, amen. Stronghold fall, walls crumble. Where there has been no light for years, decades, months, and seasons – receive Light right now in Jesus name, amen.
For any trapped inside by demons and who want salvation – come, give your soul to Christ and be delivered right now, reading these words in love and truth, in Jesus name, amen. Repent of your past and renew your mind and be made new – in and by the blood of Christ, in grace, in Jesus name, amen. The Word is life; receive life and love in Jesus name- there is freedom by His blood. Be set free right now and receive the seal of the Holy Spirit. Come out right now – demon and never to return. In Jesus name, amen.
For any confusion in the chaos, and you do not know what to believe anymore because you see so much deceit, tradition, demonic activities, witchcraft, and coldness, receive strength right now in Jesus name. Receive discernment, direction, and understanding in Jesus name, amen. Receive the love you need to go on – in Jesus name amen – heart bind and heal in Jesus name amen.

Tears are collected, and He hears your cries and calls – He is the Righteous Judge, and He has victory over evil and wickedness.
